BLUE MOUNTAINS ROLLER DERBY IN EASTERN REGION ROLLER DERBY

Blue Mountains Roller Derby League (BMRDL) participated for the first time, in the second Annual Eastern Region Roller Derby (ERRD) Smackdown 2012, on Saturday, September 29 and Sunday 30, at Penrith Sports Stadium.

On the Saturday, BMRDL played Sydney Roller Derby League (SRDL) B Team but lost 225-20.  The next Bout was against Coastal Knock-Outs and won convincingly 291-20.  This ensured that BMRDL went on to the semi-finals on the Sunday.

On Sunday, BMRDL played Western Sydney Rollers in a hard-fought bout, but lost 149-81.  The atmosphere of the tournament was electric and the BMRDL skaters commented on how much they learnt over the weekend.

BMRDL President, SuziEphedrine, said of this occasion, “The Blue Mountains Roller Derby League was extremely excited to be invited to this annual event.”

“It was great for the League to see where we placed overall in the Region.”

Blue Mountains Roller Derby will next be playing SRDL The Snipers on October 21, at UTS-Sydney Boys High School Gym, Cleveland St (btn South Dowling St and Anzac Parade), Moore Park.  Doors open 11am. Tickets: via Eventbrite. Adults: $10.50, Concession (Student/Senior/Pensioner/ child to 15yrs): $5.50, 5 years and under: FREE, DOOR PRICE, CASH ONLY, Adult: $15.00 and Concession: $7.00

BLUE MOUNTAINS ROLLER DERBY PLAYS HARD

On Saturday September 15, the Blue Mountains Roller Derby League (BMRDL) hosted its first home Bout at the Katoomba Sports & Aquatic Centre, against the CamoKazi’s from Hawkesbury/Hills Area Roller Derby (HARD).

Both teams skated out to massive cheers from the crowd – from the home crowd and a HARD visiting cheer squad.  The teams were evenly matched, but by half time, Blue Mountains had a lead of 76-59.

With less than one minute left in the game, the last jam commenced with jammers, Rapid Dash (BMRDL) and Dobie One Kenobie (HARD).  With no one getting Lead Jammer status, the last jam lasted for the full 2 minutes with Blue Mountains going on to win 174-155.  An incredible effort by both teams watched by over 500 people in the crowd.

BMRDL President, SuziEphedrine, said of this occasion, “The Blue Mountains Roller Derby League was extremely proud to host its first home Bout.  We were very excited to have HARD come and see the calibre of our bouting skaters and how the League has grown”.

“We hope this will be the first of many Bouts to come.”

BLUE MOUNTAINS ROLLER DERBY PUNCHES ON

On Saturday July 21, the Blue Mountains Roller Derby League (BMRDL) featured at the Western Sydney Rollers (WSR) Round 2 of their intraleague season held at the Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre.  The opening bout was a mini-bout between the Western Sydney Rollers home team, The Zombees, and the Blue Mountains Roller Derby League, who were both making their official debut in a public bout.

Both teams skated out to massive cheers from the crowd – from the home crowd and a Blue Mountains cheer squad.  Blue Mountains had a half-time lead of 60-50.   The lead jumped between the teams throughout the second half, and with 15 seconds left on the clock, the score was 99-95 the Zombees way.

With only 2.5 seconds left in the game, the last jam commenced with jammers, Moulin Bruise (BMRDL) and Vanity Bonfire (WSR).  With Moulin Bruise getting the lead jammer status, Blue Mountains went on to win 104-101.  The mini-bout was an incredible effort by both teams.

The BMRDL was officially launched on 1 July 2011, in that time, the League has grown to over 80 active members.

BMRDL President, SuziEphedrine, said of this occasion, “The Blue Mountains Roller Derby League was very excited to be invited by the Western Sydney Rollers to be part of their intraleague season”.

“Roller Derby is one of the fastest growing full contact sport for women in this country and we are pleased to be a part of this emerging movement.”

Blue Mountains Roller Derby will be hosting its first home Bout at the Katoomba Sports& Aquatic Centre on Saturday, September 15, against the CamoKazi’s from Hawkesbury/Hills Area Roller Derby (HARD).  Tickets available at the door for $10 and children under 12 free. Doors open from 5.00pm. All welcome.
